My thirteen favorite songs.

My thirteen favorite songs. published on No Comments on My thirteen favorite songs.

This is really a highly variable list. I probably cannot even remember my ten favorite songs, but I’ll just name songs that I particularly like.
Though numbered, the order means nothing. I am just counting to ten.

  1. “Stargazer”/”A Light In Black” – Rainbow: The climatic ending of the Rainbow albums, I have a sort of story in my mind I created via organizing the narrative beats of those songs (like for example, can you guess the boy from “Snake Charmer” is the same wizard from “Stargazer”?). I think this is really an epic song, a jarring song, and it resonates with parts of my life.
  2. “Perro Amor Explota” – La Bersuit: I’ve seen this one described as a “cursed tango” and I wholeheartedly agree. This is a song about violence, love and pain, and it greatly inspired the character of Asha. Speaking of which…
  3. “The Rifle Spiral” – The Shins: Another song that inspired Asha, although it might be more apt to say that it reminds me of a the person Asha was inspired on. It’s a depressing song, really, yet it seems powerful in its determinism.
  4. “The Hounds” – Protomen: This beat just has me jumping every time. I love villain songs. I love the lyrics. I love the crescendo intensity. Can you question who’s to blame?!
  5. “Melody Of The Wild Dance” – SID: An anime opening in here, probably won’t be the only one. For some reason my friends always identified this song with me, and truth to be told, I like the lyrics once I managed to translate them.
  6. “Only As Good As My God” – Everything Everything: There are probably far better songs from this amazing band, but this one I associate to myself more (though I know well it is about cops and their violence), or my considerations on evil.
  7. “Una Nueva Noche Fria” – Callejeros: Here in virtue of being the very first song whose lyrics I learn and I got stuck in my mind for weeks. It’s ultimately undeniably a song about drugs – a theme often present in Argentinian songwriting of the times.
  8. “Caravan” – Whiplash: A movie OST makes the list! You can tell I am not a music connoisseur. I just love the rhythm in this, it’s so intense, overwhelming. I did not find the original as catchy.
  9. “Fireball” – Deep Purple: I was between this and “Space Truckin” for a fun song I just enjoy with no much thought.
  10. “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” – Yes: Literally me.
  11. “Dame Tu Aire” – Alex Ubago: Another one of the first songs I ever memorized. I even had my very own music video in mind for it! I can still vividly remember it.
  12. “Space Truckin” – Deep Purple: I forgot it’s a longer list so I can add this. This is just such a stupid song. I love it.
  13. “No Quiero Ser Normal” – Cuarteto de Nos: Far too many songs from this band would have made it into the list so I just chose this one because its more optimistic.
